About

We are a small rural pre-school set in the picturesque village of Willoughby on the Wolds, providing exceptional care for up to 15 children from 2-4 years. Our ethos is to create a stimulating, homely environment where learning through play is at the heart of everything we do. Outdoor learning, creating, exploring, having fun and getting dirty, all supported by staff who only strive for the very best for your children.

Ofsted, 2023

“Children are curious and intrigued to explore the well thought out activities and opportunities that staff provide. The preschool’s ethos of providing a homely environment is reflected in the service staff provide. The atmosphere is calm and children are busy and engrossed in their play.”

Testimonials

Willoughby playgroup has such a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The activities are perfectly thought out for young children. It is such a supportive place and has a real sense of community. I would highly recommend!

Mother of Hallie & Lilly, 2026

Willoughby is a magical place where all the children learn and play together like a little family. Both our boys have thrived under the care of Julie & Rebecca and we couldn’t have asked for a more nurturing start to their early years journey.

Mother of William & Sebastian, 2026

The early years care and education provided at Willoughby is incredible.  Rebecca and Julie provide the children with so much love, opportunity and support.  We couldn’t be happier with how both our girls have developed under their guidance.  The activities are perfectly structured to offer the full spectrum of learning, helping to build independence and confidence.  More than anything, the girls have both loved Willoughby, they have both been so happy and excited to attend.

Meet the Team

Hello, my name is Rebecca.

I am the preschool manager, I have my NNEB and I’ve worked in early years for 30 years. I have completed my paediatric first aid certificate and I’m the designated safeguarding lead here at Willoughby preschool.

I’m married and we have a gorgeous daughter called Ellie. We love being outside and exploring different places. My favourite holiday destination is Greece, my favourite food is pasta and I love a cup of tea and biscuit!

Hello, my name is Julie.

I am a preschool practitioner and SENCO at willoughby playgroup. I have my NNEB qualification as well as a NVQ 1 and 2 in children’s nursing. I have completed my paediatric first aid certificate and hold the revised safeguarding and food hygiene certificates.

My career working with children and supporting families has spanned over 37 years. I began my career working across the children’s unit in Oncology, surgery and medicine at the QMC. I left to have my two children, Katie and Toby and worked as a TA at the infant school in Ruddington whilst they grew up.

I joined Willoughby Pre-School in 2020 and enjoy every shared moment with our lovely little characters here, as they begin their learning adventure.

Away from work, I love exploring our beautiful countryside, enjoying nature and it’s wonders. I love art, music, reading and sharing precious time making memories with my family and friends.

Hello, my name is Sally .

I am a caring and experienced individual with a lifelong passion for working with children. I hold an NNEB qualification and began my career as a nanny, where I developed a strong understanding of childcare and the importance of supporting each child as an individual.

I went on to spend 30 years working for Nottinghamshire County Council as a Teaching Assistant, mainly in Cotgrave, where I became a trusted and familiar presence, helping children grow in confidence and ability. I took early retirement in 2020 after a fulfilling and rewarding career.

I am happily married with two grown-up sons, who remain a big part of my life. I also have a real passion for keeping fit and active, enjoying Bootcamp, running, and walking.

More recently, I’ve been spending time at Willoughby Pre-School, where I’m thoroughly enjoying getting to know each and every little character. Being around young children continues to bring me so much happiness
